I say Rowena's gift is knitting up quickly, and of course, suddenly it's impossible. Well, not really, but my first go at it turned out WAY too small. I tried an engorgio charm, but then it was too big! So I had to redo.
All ready to go now, though, I'm off to the post office at lunch to pop it in the mail with the rest of her goodies! Then, it's off to Mexico. I'll be doing some Quidditch training in Mexico City until the 14th. Feliz Navidad!

in the home stretch
Where oh where has the time gone? Here we are, just a few weeks from the end of Quidditch season, and then it's CHRISTMAS! I can hardly believe it.
And in the midst of psyching myself up for the last games of the season, not to mention Christmas shopping, I've got to fly down to Mexico next week! And to make matters worse, I've got to go the muggle way. And to make matters even worse than that, my layover is in Miami, easily the worst airport I've ever set foot in. Sigh. Que pena.
So, needless to say I'm rushing quite a bit to finish up Rowena's kit and get it in the mail before I go--wish me luck. I'm about, mmmmmm, 30% done her second handknit item, but it's going really quickly (much faster than the first one!), so I'm fairly confident I can have it finished this weekend.

Gracias
Hurrah, next week is Thanksgiving (that's a gringo holiday) and the start of my very favorite time of year, the holiday season! This weekend I'll be purchasing a Tofurky (yep, I eat them!) and the ingredients for my famous honey crunch pecan pie, baked up the muggle way, dripping with sugar and calories. I can't wait for Thanksgiving dinner.
I am of course thankful for all the usual things--friends, family, gainful employment etc., but I'm also thankful for the online knitting community. As a witch with 0 real-life knitting friends, it's great to find a place like Ravelry where I can interact with other knitters, even if it's not in person.
I'm also thankful for the upcoming 4 day weekend that comes with the Thanksgiving holiday. You certainly won't find me being trampled by bargain-crazed crowds, I'll be staying home in my pjs and knitting!

Zippy and Winifred's Big Adventure
I brought Zippy with me to work today, and he was begging me to get out of the office. It was quite a lovely day, so we decided to take a walk around town.
We started off on this lovely tree-lined street:

Zippy didn't care so much for the shade, though, so we trotted over to a lovely, grassy park. Zippy spotted a local monument from here that he wanted to check out:

But SOME of use only get an hour for lunch, so I opted to stay put while he zipped over there to have a look see.
Once he returned, we finished our walk through the park and stopped to watch a lunchtime soccer game when Zippy spotted this strange site:

That's quite a large tree for the center of the city, so I let Zippy zoom over to investigate. He said it was covered in some kind of net. Why would anyone do such a thing to a tree?
By now, we were getting a bit tired of walking, and I was getting hungry for lunch. Zippy insisted on one last stop--a visit to a friend's house:

Hmmm, Zippy has some high level friends! I let him slip through the gate to say hello while I, a lowly commoner, stayed on the outside with the tourists.
I'm sure you've figured out where we are by now, but just in case, here are Zippy's own, close up photos from our Big Adventure:

a minute to breath
Wow, quidditch is really wiping me out! I swear, I'm constantly at practice, and when I fall into bed at night, I have that feeling that I'm still zooming around on my broom. Some days I think I should fake an injury just to get a few minutes' rest. But I won't let my team down! GO PRIDE!
Picked up some lovely yarn to make Rowena's goodies, now if only I could find some spare time to knit!

Winnie's Whereabouts
Ok, this time around Winnie was definitely visiting Queerditch Marsh, site of the first quidditch match ever played. Sounded a bit boring, frankly (too bad she couldn't hop over to that ghost convention--now that sounds like fun!), I hope she had more of an adventure this week!

Where in the World is Winnie?
I have no clue!
I don't know how people came up with their guesses for Miss Wartbobble's first clue--sheep and a castle? Springtime? That could be anywhere in the southern hemisphere! Everyone seems pretty confident that it's Dunedin, New Zealand, but I don't know why!! There are lots of sheep and alpaca in the highlands of South America, but I suppose Incan ruins don't necessarily constitute a castle. More like a temple. Anyway, I'm still clueless, but since Dunedin is the consensus, I'll go with it.
I definitely agree that her second stop surely must be Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and I hope she brings back some delicious syrup to share!
